public educationMidway Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4192 holds boot drives
twice each year in an effort to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy
Association.  In previous years they have been two Saturdays in a row
beginning on Labor Day weekend.  This year we chose to split the days
up and just held one Saturday, June 16 and will hold our second boot
drive on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend in September.  In 2005 we
raised over $3,600, in 2006 we raised $4,460 and so far in 2007 we
raised over $3,200 with a goal of at least $5,000 this year.

Firefighter with kidsThe Midway Fire District Fire Prevention Bureau also hosts an Open
house the last Saturday of Fire Prevention Week in October each year.
This year our open house will be on Oct. 27 from 10a-2p.  We have a
Fire Prevention Education Trailer for the kids to practice escaping a
house on fire; informational brochures; live demonstrations; videos; etc.
Several outside agencies also attend.  This year we will be promoting
Residential Sprinkler systems through our new Fire Prevention
/Sprinkler Demo trailer which will have a live fire demonstration
where the public can see how a fire builds up and how effective a
sprinkler system is and how it operates.  We are very excited about
this new addition to our public education program.

We also attend the annual Kid's Fest at the Zoo of Gulf Breeze.  This
year that will be October 20.  We not only have an exhibit, but we
also provide ALS coverage during the event with one FF/EMT and one
FF/Paramedic on duty at the Zoo in case of any medical emergencies.

Santa RunThe District also provides American Heart Association non-certified
CPR classes free of charge to the public.  If a person requires
certification there is a charge of $10 for the card assessed by AHA.

At Christmas, the District provides Santa with a ride through the
District (four nights).
